Product Description
Unlike many other goggles on the market that are mass-produced using molded plastic for the frames, Halcyon Mark 49 goggle frames continue to be made in brass which is then hand-polished to a mirror-finish before being chrome-plated. The frames are hand-stitched to a quality padded black leather facemask.
The goggles’ elasticated headband has enough adjustment to allow them to fit over or under an open-face crash helmet, and the unique attachment clips allow the goggles to fit comfortably against the face, even when worn over a crash helmet, making them an ideal goggle to wear when riding a classic motorcycle.
The goggles come with UV-protected scratch-resistant polycarbonate lenses. Each lens is housed in an independent frame which can be easily removed from the goggle to allow replacements to be fitted. Optional upgrades are available, such as laminated glass, which is very popular for aviation purposes, or tinted lenses, which are useful in sunny conditions. The glass lenses can also be taken to your local opticians to have prescription lenses bonded to the inner surface.
The head band now also comes fitted with triple silicon, elasticated non-slip strips for the perfect grip when worn over an open face crash helmet.

Halcyon goggles
This is what I think about them so far (used them twice now, in the cold, which was basically what I wanted them for)...
They're the Halcyon model Mark 9 Vintage. I'd tried other large-like goggles to cover the eye opening hole in the Schampa balaclava I wear in the winter, to keep the cold wind from entering and making my eyes water and parts of my face freeze and hurt.
Nothing was 'sealing' very well and I was suffering and was really beginning to hate riding in the winter.
I got these Halcyons and the very next day had a PGR mission that was a good 60 miles one way from the house and it was cold, didn't warm up like the weather idiot said it would. The goggles sealed fantastically. There was no 'vents' that I had to cover with little pieces of duct tape to keep too much air/cold air from getting in them and making my eyes water. They were also *comfortable*! The padding in the soft leather was really, really nice!
I personally didn't have any problem with them being too big and interfering with the way my half-helmet sat on my head. According to them, it does bother enough people that Halcyoin makes a 'smaller' profile goggle for those with that problem.
So far, I'm extremely happy with them. I haven't had the chance to wear them in rain or with the tinted lenses I ordered with them. Once I do wear them in sun and rain, I'll write that up too.
They offer laminated glass or a damn fine, clear polycarbonate. The plastic is very clear, but you can still see a tiny (very tiny!) amount of blur in little areas of the lenses. Not enough to bother anything or make riding unsafe, but it's there if you look close. If you're not paying attention, you won't see that kind of thing. I'll eventually get the glass, simply because I feel it's just going to be better in the long run, since glass doesn't scratch like plastic will.Posted on 15/02/2013 by tar snake

Richard
There is no other classic motorcycle goggle that comes close to the quality of the Halcyon goggle, I have owned 3 pairs over the last 40 years (yes I'm that old) and other than replacing the headbands and occasionally the lenses they are still as good today as when I bought them.

Very impressed with the delivery speed and the service when I called to order them.
The goggles are really superb quality, believe me, I have a super critical eye for quality, and I cannot fault these goggles anywhere. A real credit to your workforce who make them.
Thankyou, and hope to be a future customer,

Classic Googles
These googles look just the part and actually work very well withan old fashioned helmet. They're well made and the lenses can be replaced if necessary.

Reeks of quality
Beautifully made from soft leather stiched to nicely Chrome plated frames and with real glass lenses (an optional extra) these goggles fit beautifully and give a very authentic 40's look. The quick release lens retainer is a nice touch as is the rubberised back of the strap which stops the goggles from riding up on a crash helmet.Highly recommended.

Proper Goggles
Now these are "proper" goggles. The soft, supple black leather feels comfortable enough to wear for hours, either on your motorcycle or (I can only imagine) in the cockpit. Styled on the 1940's RAF design, these are not WWII replicas. Apparently Halcyon make those if that's what you need; ask for brown leather WWII RAF blue painted brass, PN 13-05860. As you might guess, original RAF goggles from the 1940's can sell for several hundreds of pounds nowadays. It's quite a saving, considering these are of such high quality.
On the box it says, "3mm thick replacement lenses are fitted, either in laminated glass tested to BS 4110 OR in moulded and coated polycarbonate tested to BS EN138." These ones have BS 4110 stamped on the chrome-plated brass, so be aware that these are glass. Yes, glass and brass. I believe it is possible to have custom prescription lenses fitted if so desired.
One last thing to know before buying MK49's; the different colours available. I think the chrome and black looks the best but you might prefer antique brown (or possibly the white leather if your name is Penelope Pitstop).Posted on 13/11/2012 by J/P
