A brief look back on the history of Brooklands racing.

In the early days of Brooklands motorcar racing. The driver's safety was not considered to be of prime importance. And so the least amount of protection was provided for race track events.

Eye protection, a fabric helmet, a pair of heavy gauntlets and overalls. These items were usually supplied and worn by drivers.

Away from the racetrack, out in town and the country (if you were lucky enough to have a roadworthy period classic car at the time). you would probably not be too concerned about road safety. But would be more interested in the need for protection from the weather by dressing appropriately for the occasion.

This would amount to head covering, appropriate eyewear, gloves and some suitable and fashionable clothing of the day.
